the beloved image appears was written during a time of grieve and loss, shortly after my maternal grandmother passed away. It was the first time for me to experience the loss of a loved one. A memory that will always stay with me is when I was looking through the photo collection at my grandma’s home, I found a few photos from her youth. A strong wave of emotions hit me as I was looking through the photos – one that was wistful, contemplative, and nostalgic. I wanted to write a piece to describe my feelings at that point of time. The saxophone quartet is a medium which I have I always wanted to write for, given its versatility and huge range of expressions.
